The DCNS design for the Shortfin Barracuda has been selected for the Sea 1000 Future Submarine Program.
French firm DCNS have been awarded the contract to provide Australia with 12 submarines. While the design is French, the build will be all-Australian. The boats will contribute to Australia’s regional naval capability for several decades to come.
Minister for Defence have announced today the next significant step in the building of Australia’s Future Submarines with the signing of the contract between the Government and DCNS to commence the design phase of the Program.
